About
Martha Fischer, LMFT
As a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT), I enjoy working with individuals, couples and families. I received my Bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and my Masters in Marriage & Family Therapy from Virginia Tech. I am a certified IFS Therapist and have advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy, both effective research-based models for working with individuals and couples. I am also a Clinical Fellow of the American Association of Marriage & Family Therapy and a member of the Virginia AAMFT.
On my path to becoming a therapist, I worked in the hospitality industry providing professional career counseling. Helping people through difficult decisions and challenging times inspired me to become a marriage and family therapist.Prior to private practice, I counseled couples, families and individuals at JSSA, a private non-profit agency. There, I developed and facilitated support groups for children of divorce as well as multi-family groups for children with ADHD and their parents.
I am comfortable working with entire families in my office, hearing each family member and, more importantly, helping them hear each other. I view my work through a systemic lens, helping my clients explore and appreciate who they are individually and in the relationships they keep - with friends, partners, spouses and other family members.
As a daughter, sister, wife and mother of two grown sons, I bring my life experiences to my therapeutic work, along with, compassion, humor, a genuine curiosity and an ability to sit with my clients in their pain.I consider it a privilege to provide a safe, non-judgmental, hopeful space to help you work toward your goals and find your voice.
Katrina Taschman, M.S., Counselor in Residence
Whether I am working with individuals, couples, or families, my goal is to help people feel less burdened by negativity and more connected with themselves and their loved ones.
I often work with couples or families on rebuilding trust, letting go of resentment, increasing emotional intimacy, setting emotional boundaries, or supporting one another through loss or difficult transitions. Overall, I strive to create a trusting, warm environment where clients feel safe enough to heal.
I am trained in Internal Family Systems, a way of working with the brain and body to resolve internal conflicts and unburden beliefs and emotions that hold you back.
I received my master’s from Virginia Tech and am currently a Resident in Marriage and Family Therapy.
I am currently under the supervision of Angela Huebner, LMFT. In the event that clients have any questions or concerns about my work, Angela can be contacted at: angela@angelahuebner.com, 703-328-4931, 405 North Washington Street, Suite 101, Falls Church, VA 22046.
